THE RAIN

After so many years of being unhappy, she was finally happy now. She was giddly, she was elated, she was in seventh heaven. She was driving her car to their new home. He was following in the rental truck. In a few short hours, they would be home, at his home, her new home, their home. All she could think of were the happy days ahead.

They were driving thru a mountainous stretch of highway, and it was pouring down rain. The wipers were almost no use. The traffic was still keeping a moderate pace. But, she had to be careful. She had never driven her new car in the rain before.

She was thinking of the happy times she had with him. Whenever he came to visit her before the move. How he made her feel so youthful, so vibrant, so full of life. She could not wait to get to her new home. To be able to relax and be with the one that she had grown to love so deeply. Knowing that they would have all the time together. She always wanted someone to love her, care for her, to be there for her. And one that she could love. She had never been happier than she was at this moment.

Suddenly, in front of her, she saw red and white lights whipping every which way. There had been an accident. She applied her brakes, but she could not stop in time. She remembers seeing a big truck looming in front of her, coming closer. Then, everything went black.

Next thing she knew, rain was pouring on her face. And he was beside her, holding her. He was talking to her, but, she could not make out his words. She looked up at him thru the rain.

"I guess I cursed God out to many times." She strained to get her words out so he could hear. "I guess he never wanted me to be happy. But, at least, I got to taste happiness for a few short months. Please do not forget, I will always love you." And then, it went black, for the final time.
